Structural Engineer
Job Description
Sinclair Pratt Cameron, a structural engineering consulting firm, has an opening for a Structural Engineer who is interested in working on a wide range of structural engineering projects. Our firm has provided structural engineering services for municipalities, as well as private owners and the federal government. Our work has included concrete and steel multi-story offices, warehouses and manufacturing facilities, medical and sports facilities, schools, shopping centers, parking garages, military facilities, as well as residential structures. Our services also include structural evaluations and condition reports on existing structures.
About the Job
Responsibilities include designing structural systems for structures including steel, concrete, masonry, and wood. Structural designs would be taken from conceptual level through construction documents and construction administration. Responsibilities also would include some travel for site surveys and investigations to help facilitate the structural designs, and to meet with clients during the design process. When necessary, develop and edit Project Specifications Tracing of time for proper billing of projects.
Typical Duties & Responsibilities

Prepares design computations.

Prepares project specifications.

Keeps Project Managers informed of work load and any changes to project scope or additional services.

Uses computer assisted engineering and design software (Tekla TEDDS, TEKLA Structural Designer, Ram Elements, Ram Concept).

Is able to effectively communicate ideas and design intent with clients.

Have a basic understanding of drafting standards to instruct draftpersons/technicians to reduce designs to working drawings.

Performs design and inspection/field work.

Actively observes and acts in an appropriate manner related to safety and company standards.
Job Requirements
-
0-2 years of structural engineering experience.

Engineering Degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology with a Structural Emphasis from an accredited four-year university.

Engineer in Training (EIT) or be able to obtain one within a year of starting.

Construction experience is a plus.

Excellent oral and written communication skills essential for team-based working.

Excellent planning and organizational skills required for our fast-paced environment.

Must be highly motivated, proactive, and willing to take on new challenges.

Must have good follow through and self-implemented Quality Control measures.

Field Inspector
Job Description
Sinclair Pratt Cameron, a structural engineering consulting firm, has an immediate need for a field inspector. SPC provides structural engineering and construction inspection services for a wide range of projects including public works, commercial, industrial, residential, and waterfront construction.
About the Job
When hired you will perform building third party inspection activities in Virginia Beach, VA and the surrounding areas. You should have comprehensive knowledge of the latest IBC codes. The ideal candidates will have construction and/or inspection knowledge of commercial and residential structures. Manages construction projects by visiting and inspecting job sites, ensuring compliance with plans and specifications, reviewing and interpreting plans, specifications, and contracts, monitoring project status, resolving problems, meeting with engineers, consulting with inspectors regarding contractor claims, attending construction and progress meetings, reviewing design changes and conducting final inspections.
Qualifications

A minimum of 4 years experience in commercial and residential construction is required.

Prior experience in construction inspection and/or third-party inspection activities is a plus.

Qualified candidates will have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.

Ability to work well independently and with others as part of a team.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Ability to quickly absorb and utilize company-specific techniques, standards and procedures.

Ability to coordinate with other disciplines effectively.

Thorough knowledge of building regulations and associated laws.

Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and engineering drawings.

Special Certifications and Licenses a plus. (i.e. OSHA safety certifications, ICC Special Inspector Certifications)
